Queer Clay Club Exhibition Opening
After a year of workshops around the motu, the Queer Clay Club is bringing together the finished plaques for a special opening night in Tāmaki Makaurau.

For the past year, artist Maya Lynch of Small Batch Pottery Co has been quietly gathering queer community through clay workshops, small groups meeting, making, talking, and creating space for each other. From that kaupapa grew Queer Commemorative Plaques: a bold, beautiful idea asking one simple question:

What if your story could last a thousand years?

Participants from across the rainbow whānau have decorated hand-made clay plaques with messages to their younger selves, tributes to queer friendship, moments of courage, quiet truths, loud declarations, and everything in between. Each plaque is fired, photographed, and is now brought together for public exhibition.

Following the exhibition, the plaques will be cached in a secret location, intended to be uncovered centuries from now as a long-lasting message to the future that we were always here.

Join us for an evening of story, memory, clay, and community.
