Tāmaki Makaurau Premiere, director Louise Weard in person for a conversation with Dr Emmy Rākete plus an audience Q&A.

Castration Movie is a labyrinthine postmodern epic about gender.

The first part of Castration Movie (running 275 minutes with an intermission) contains two chapters:

In Chapter i. Incel Superman, a production assistant named Turner Stewart (Noah Baker) sees his world spiral out of control as he uncompromisingly attempts to shape his life into the one he feels he deserves.
.
In Chapter ii. Traps Swan Princess, a trans sex worker named Michaela “Traps” Sinclair (Louise Weard) finds her relationships becoming increasingly strained as she decides to pursue motherhood.

“As daring and revolutionary an indie film as any crafted this decade.” – The Wrap

“It’s so painful and good that I can only bear to watch it in like, fifteen minute increments while pacing around the room in psychic discomfort” – Torrey Peters (author, Detransition, Baby)

“A Cassavetes-level rawness, a dazed Warholian languor and quotable banter worthy of Kevin Smith” – The Guardian

Why see this film: Writer/director/star Louise Weard will be in attendance as part of an Antipodean tour of her infamous Castration Movie Anthology—this premiere includes an in-person audience Q&A with Louise plus opening conversation between Louise and Dr Emmy Rākete (communist, prison abolitionist, academic, co-founder of People Against Prisons Aotearoa). Lock in for a very special evening screening, part one of a singular epic that is unlike anything you’ve seen before.

Solidarity pricing: $12 if you’d benefit from a lower-cost option (esp. trans, takatāpui, students, unwaged), $16 standard if you can, or $25 to pay it forward and support accessibility + costs of bringing the film to Aotearoa.
