Embrace your romantic side in this Valentine’s Day pillow painting workshop to mark the opening of Gus Fisher Gallery’s upcoming exhibition 'Dreaming from afar' (14 February – 2 May 2026). In this drop-in workshop, you’ll borrow inspiration from Tyrone Te Waa’s presentation of paintings on fitted sheets, referencing the mattress storage rooms found in wharenui (meeting houses), to hand-paint a pillowcase. Adorn a pillow for the romantic and platonic loves in your life or make one for yourself as the ultimate act of self-care.
Join participating artists brunelle dias (India, Aotearoa New Zealand), Gian Manik (Australia) and Tyrone Te Waa (Ngāti Tūwharetoa) for an artist talk in the gallery following the workshop from 2-3pm.
This workshop is free to attend with all materials provided. The workshop and gallery are wheelchair accessible with staff assistance, please contact Gus Fisher Gallery ahead of your visit or see our website for more details.
