Visit Britomart and step inside the fabulous world where drag meets fashion. This outdoor exhibition on the Pavilion panels features life-size portraits of 13 remarkable performers – from legendary K Road queens to rising stars, drag kings to TikTok sensations – each wearing a colour from the Pride Progress flag.
Discover the artistry, creativity, and incredible mahi behind every look, from hand-sewn costumes to custom couture. Through stunning photography by Denise Baynham and personal stories from each performer (accessible via QR codes), explore how drag performers transform identity through fashion, one show-stopping outfit at a time.
Co-curated by Denise Baynham and drag pioneer Edward Cowley (Buckwheat), this exhibition celebrates the heart of drag: self-expression, community, and the love that goes into every transformation. Located on Te Ara Tahuhu Walkway, wander through Britomart at your leisure and immerse yourself in the stories, style, and soul of Aotearoa's drag community.
This project was made possible with generous support from Britomart, Foundation North and the Rule Foundation.
